Powder coating is a metal finishing process whereby a dry polyester powder is sprayed over a metal part with an electrostatic gun and then baked in a curing over for about 30 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. The powder protects the part from corrosion and makes it look beautiful as there are hundreds of colors to choose from!
Ceramic coating uses a ceramic polymer hybrid liquid paint that can be sprayed on almost any surface and is highly resistant to scratches and most chemicals. It is an extremely thin coating and light weight with high heat resistant properties – some well suited for temperatures up to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit. Because ceramic coatings can cure at low temperatures they are appropriate for coating carbon fiber and plastics at only 150 degrees F. We use Cerakote ceramic products exclusively.
Powder coatings are based on polymer resins and other additives. These ingredients are melt mixed, cooled, and ground into a uniform powder similar to baking flour. A process called electrostatic spray deposition is typically used to apply the powder coating to a metal object. We use a spray gun that applies an electrostatic charge to the powder particles which are then attracted to the grounded metal part. The powder covered parts then enter a curing oven where the coating chemically reacts under heat to produce a material finish that is very resistant to breakdown.
